Manager | Phil Brown

Phil Brown was appointed manager of Peterborough Sports during September 2025 as the side sat last in the National League North. Prior to becoming a successful manager Brown had a relatively successful playing career. Phil Brown started his professional playing career at Hartlepool United in 1978. Brown spent 8 years at Hartlepool where he made 217 appearances, scoring 8 goals from right back. When his time at Hartlepool concluded in 1985 Brown made the decision to move to Halifax Town. During his 3 years at Halifax Brown played 135 times while scoring 19 goals for the club. In 1988 Phil Brown made the decision to join Bolton Wanderers where he spent the next 6 years of his career. During his time at Bolton, he made 256 appearances while also winning the Associate Members Cup in 1989. After his departure from Bolton in 1994 Phil Brown joined Blackpool where he played under Sam Allardyce until 1996 while also taking the role of assistant manager which was his first role in coaching. Brown's next role in coaching was following the end of his playing career at Blackpool as he made the move to become Colin's Todd assistant manager at Bolton Wanderers. In 1999 Colin Todd departed Bolton and Phil Brown took over as caretaker manager where he won 4 out of 5 prior to the permanent appointment of Sam Allardyce. Brown served as Allardyce's assistant for six years at Bolton before deciding to forge his own career as a manager. Phil Brown's first full time management job was at Derby County where he was appointed as manage in June 2005. His time at Derby was an unsuccessful one as Brown was sacked just seven months into his tenure following a 6-1 league defeat against Coventry City. Phil Brown found his next manager role at Hull City as he was appointed as first-team coach under Phil Parkinson and took over as caretaker manager following Parkinson's sacking. After guiding Hull out of the relegation zone, he was appointed permanent manager. Phil Brown went on to lead Hull to promotion to the Premier League in the following season for the first time in the club's history. During the clubs first season in the Premier League Phil Brown guided the side to safety as the club finished in 17th place, one point above Newcastle United. Despite this, the following season saw Hull get relegated from the Premier League and Phil Brown's contract was terminated in June 2010. In 2011 Brown was appointed as Preston North End as the club was battling survival. Brown was unable to save the club from relegation during his first season and in December 2011 Brown and his assistant were sacked from their positions at Preston North End. Phil Brown's next role as manager was in 2013 as he was appointed as manager of Southend United. During Brown's first full season at Southend the club were eliminated from the playoff semi-finals by Burton Albion but a year later Brown achieved promotion with the club as they defeated by Wycombe Wanderers on penalties in the playoff final. In the 2016-17 season the club challenged for a playoff place in League One but failed and in 2018 Brown was placed on gardening leave following a poor run of form. Following his spell at Southend United Brown joined Swindon Town in March 2018 but after a poor stint he was sacked in November 2018. The rest of Brown's managerial career saw him take roles at Pune City in the Indian Super League, Barrow, Kidderminster Harrier and a return to Southend United prior to being appointed as manager of Peterborough Sports in 2025.

KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | SEASON SO FAR

'The Turbines' have had a poor 2025/26 campaign so far and since their defeat against the Martyrs at the beginning of the season, the side have only managed to pick up 6 victories. After the 3-0 defeat against Merthyr, Peterborough Sports had to wait another 4 games for their first victory of the season which came away at Marine in a tough fought 1-0 victory. 'The Turbines' couldn't back up their away victory as the following two games saw them lose 3-2 and 5-0 against Telford United and AFC Fylde respectively. However, the side seemed to bounce back from the 5-0 thrashing against Fylde as their next two games saw them beat playoff pushing Kidderminster Harrier 2-1 and pick up a solid draw against Alfreton town. Peterborough Sport's form seemed to be turning around as they backed up their positive results with another two more victories in their next 4 games again Southport and Chorley. Despite this, Phil Brown's side then lost 3 games in a row as they were handed defeats away at Macclesfield, Spennymoor and Darlington. Following a heavy defeat away at Darlington the side bounced back by picking up two straight wins at home against Radcliffe and Bedford in which the side scored 6 times and only conceded once. However - since their home victory against Bedford - Peterborough Sports haven't picked up a victory in a run of form that has seen them lose 3 times and draw twice. In their most recent outing Peterborough Sports had a goal-less home draw with Oxford City. The top goal scorer for 'the Turbines' this season has been attacker Luca Miller who has bagged himself 8 goals so far this season.
