Gethyn Hill Agrees Terms ahead of 2023/24 Season

Merthyr Town Football Club is pleased to announce that Gethyn Hill has agreed terms with the club ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Hill re-joined the Martyrs last summer but a serious knee injury led to him making just one league appearance during the 2022/23 campaign.

The forward began his career at Cardiff City before joining Cinderford Town in 2016 following his release from the Bluebirds. After an impressive stint at the Foresters, it lead to him attracting interest, leading to him joining National League South Weston-super-Mare in December of that year.

At the start of the 2017-18 campaign, he spent a month on loan at Hereford before returning to Weston and going on to become the Seagulls’ top scorer for the season with 19 goals.

After a further season in Somerset, he then joined The Martyrs for the 2019-20 season, making 19 appearances in total for the Club. After leaving Merthyr in 2020, Hill signed a new deal with Taunton Town where he won the Southern League Premier South in his second season at the Peacocks.

Commenting on his latest addition, Manager Paul Michael said: “It’s a cliche to say someone is “like a new signing”, however, Geth is like a new signing for us having missed all bar 7 minutes last season. I believe we missed Geth and his physical presence in both boxes last season, he will give us a different dimension to our game. He’s the kind of person that has done everything right in his treatment, his recovery and he’s experienced coming back from the other knee earlier in his career so I believe he will come back stronger once again.

“He’s looking at mid to late September for a competitive return at this point but at this stage of his rehabilitation that could still be pushed back or come forward slightly depending on progress. I can’t wait for him to step out at Penydarren Park again, hit the net and celebrate with the supporters, that’ll be a great moment for us and Geth.”
