Frazer departs

After 159 apperances and just over four seasons at the club, Merthyr Town Football Club can confirm the departure of Frazer Thomas.

Frazer, who first joined the Martyrs as an 18-year-old after being released from Cardiff City, scored 19 goals for The Martyrs during his time at Penydarren Park, and was part of the Southern League Premier South title winning squad in 2024/25, including scoring a late winner away at Bracknell Town.

Speaking on Frazers departure and his service to the club, Paul Michael said “Frazer Thomas, what a player. What a guy! This boy came out of Cardiff City and straight for his hometown club when they didn’t have a squad after the mothball season. Over the past four seasons he has got fans on the edg eof their seats, made goals, scored goals and entertained us all. When Frazer’s at his best I love watching him play, running at people, that air of arrogance, his cheeky attitude, and hes the only player I’ve seen beat two players, turn them inside out, get fouled and then whilst on the floor, keg someone right in front of the ref and get away with it! There are so many great memories of Frazer tearing teams apart over the last few years and we wish him every success in the future.

In the National League North this season I feel we need two midfielders with slightly different qualities to play as 8’s in our team, that’s where Frazer has played some great football over the last couple of seasons, that decision leaves him competing as a 10 where he’s more than capable of affecting games positively for the team, but the return of Twamley has meant less opportunity than we predicted earlier in the summer. Frazer needs a run of games enjoying his football and getting that match sharpness to be at his best and whilst our preference would have been a loan to see him get up to full speed and return to the Martyrs, I understand and respect his desire for a fresh start at this point. He’ll be missed in the changing rooms, on the pitch and in the stands, thank you Fraz.”

Everyone at Merthyr Town Football Club would like to thank Frazer Thomas for his commitment and service to the club during his time at The

Martyrs, and we wish home all the success in his next journey.
