Match Day Guide - Sholing

We welcome Sholing to Penydarren Park on Saturday afternoon for our Pitching IN Southern League Premier fixture (3pm Kick Off).


The Martyrs will look to continue their unbeaten run at home so far this season but will have to overcome a much-improved Sholing team who have also enjoyed victories over Marlow and Swindon Supermarine so far this season, as well as a victory over Basingstoke Town in the FA Cup.


Arriving at Penydarren Park

The gates at PP will be open from 12:30 – two hours and a half before kick-off against Sholing. Supporters are encouraged to arrive in good time, to enter the ground as easily as possible, and arrive ahead of kick-off at 3pm.

Cash and Card payments are now being accepted on the Turnstiles at the entrance to the Lyn Jones Grandstand.

Calling all Welsh EFL Club fans don’t forget that you get the reduced entry of £10 into any Martyrs 2024/25 home league games, on production of a valid 2024/25 Season Ticket for Cardiff City, Swansea City, Newport County or Wrexham.

Please note, card payment is now accepted on Lyn Jones Grandstand Turnstile, as well as cash payments.


Car Parking

There will only be car parking in Penydarren Park for those supporters with reserved parking spaces for the 2024/25 season, as well as a limited number of disabled parking spaces.


Car parking is available in the Castle Street Multi-Story Car Park or College Car Park just a short 5–10-minute walk from the ground. We ask any visitors to the ground to please park respectfully in the local area around Penydarren Park and to respect the residents.


Bar & Food Facilities

Before kick-off tomorrow, you can purchase a range of drinks from both of the club’s bar. Both ‘Romans Bar’ and Webley's will be open from 12:30pm.

Holveys Café will be open from 2pm serving hot food, including the famous cob and chips.


Live Nations League Action

Following the Martyrs game against Sholing, there will be live coverage of Republic of Ireland -v- England in their Nations League clash at 5pm – both Romans and Webley’s bar will be showing the game!


Club Shop

Pay a visit to the ‘Merthyr Town Club Shop’ and purchase our replica kits, leisurewear, and accessories. The store will be opening its doors from 2pm, giving Martyr's fans plenty of time to visit before entering PP!


50/50 Tickets & Matchday Programme

Our usual 50/50 tickets will be available to purchase around the ground on Saturday at just £1. The draw will be made at half-time, with the winner being announced by our matchday announcer.

Pick up a copy of our matchday programme at just £2. The programmes will be on sale around the ground prior to kick-off.

The Martyrs enjoyed victories in their first two home league games of the season, hammering Tiverton 6-0, before beating Hanwell at home here on 24th August. Last weekend also so a 3-2 victory for The Martyrs in the Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round.


A key player for Sholing this afternoon will be midfielder, Jake Hesketh. The former Southampton player featured for the saints in the Premier League under Ronald Koeman, making his debut against Manchester United in December 2014. Since leaving Southampton, Hesketh has also had spells with Burton Albion, MK Dons, Crawley and Eastleigh – before joining Sholing in May 2023.


Previous Result

Last season, The Martyrs beat Sholing 2-0 away thanks to goals from Ricardo Rees and Gethyn Hill, and beat them 2-1 at home thanks to an own goal and a great finish from Keiran Evans.


Mascots

We welcome the children from Rhymney Juniors FC U12’s who are our matchday mascots for Saturday’s game and will be leading the Martyrs out at Penydarren Park ahead of the game.
