Merthyr Town Football Club is excited to have completed the signing of former Yeovil Town FC and Hull City midfielder, Alex John.
The 20-year-old joins the Martyrs ready to begin another new challenge in the Southern Football League.
The midfielder, who can also operate in defence, came through the ranks at Yeovil Town Football Club and was apart of their latter 2018/19 Sky Bet league Two campaign, after impressing interim manager Neale Marmon.
After signing a new one-year-deal at Huish Park at the end of that season, John was the subject of Premier League interest according to reports, with Hull City winning the race to sign the highly-rated talisman on loan.
Most recently, the energetic playmaker has enjoyed a good spell at the KCOM Stadium, developing himself with the U23's squad whilst training with the first team on the odd occasion.
John has also got some valuable experience in the Southern League Premier South after a short loan spell at Gosport Borough, before his departure to Hull City last January.
"It’s great to join the club," said John. I’ve enjoyed the last few weeks since playing here and I’m happy to get the deal done ready for the start of the season.
"I can’t wait for the start of the new campaign this Saturday. Hopefully, we can put on a good performance in front of the fans and start the season how we mean to go on."
Manager Dean Clarke added: "I'm delighted to welcome Alex to the club.
"He's the type of player that suits what we're trying to do at the football club, especially with his energy and quality. He's certainly a player that has impressed us in pre-season and I'm looking forward to working with him throughout the 2021/22 season. "
