Merthyr Town Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of defender Joe Woodiwiss on loan from Newport County AFC until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old becomes the Martyrs’ third signing of the January transfer window following the arrivals of Joshua Allen and James Parry.

Woodiwiss has been a product of the Exiles' Academy from a young age and signed his first professional contract with Newport County last June.

Prior to that, Woodiwiss made his senior debut for Newport in their 7–4 victory against Cheltenham Town in the EFL Trophy Southern Group E last season. He has also represented the club in other cup competitions since. The deal will be completed subject to clearance from the FA & FAW.

“It’s a great signing for us,” said Manager Dean Clarke.

“He will give us another good option in defence and is versatile in how we and he can play.

“He is another player who’s attracted a lot of interest, so I’m delighted to have him here at the club on loan.

“It’s three new signings in the last week with Joshua Allen and James Parry, and we’re really pleased with our business so far.”

Everyone at Merthyr Town FC would also like to place their sincere thanks to Newport County for their assistance in the loan deal.
