Its matchday 11 in the Enterprise National League North for Merthyr Town as we travel to Spennymoor Town. The Martyrs enter this fixture following a weekend off due to the postponement of the South Shields fixture. However, Paul Michael will be hoping that his side can build on their latest performance which saw Merthyr come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 away at Chester. The hosts, Spennymoor Town will be full of confidence ahead of the Merthyr clash following a 1-0 victory against Billericay to secure their spot in the FA Cup First Round Proper. 'The Moors' find themselves in some good league form with 3 wins from their last 3 league games, conceding 0 and scoring 7. This rich vein of form sees Graeme Lee's side sit 6th in the league just 4 points above the Martyrs.

Manager | Graeme Lee

Assistant Manager | Ian Clark

Graeme Lee was appointed as the First Team Manager of 'The Moors' in January of the 2023/2024 season following his resignation from his previous role at the helm of Marske United. In his playing days Lee went on to have a successful playing career in the Football League while also making over 500 senior appearances. He came through the ranks at Hartlepool United where he made his debut in 1995 at the age of 17. He quickly established himself in Hartlepool's back four and helped guide the team to 3 successive playoff appearances in League Two. Lee then went on to sign for Sheffield Wednesday following Chris Turner after he left Hartlepool to become manager of the 'Owls'. In 2006 he then made the switch and joined Doncaster Rovers while also clinching a place in the club's history by captaining the side to EFL trophy success. Graeme Lee then returned to Hartlepool on loan followed by a short loan spell at Shrewsbury Town prior to Lee's permanent move to Bradford City in 2008 and Notts County in 2009. In the final years of his career Lee played for Darlington and Celtic Nation before retirement. Following his retirement Middlesborough offered Lee a coaching role where he spent over a decade working in various roles at the club before being unveiled as Lead Coach of the club's under-23s in 2019. Then in 2021 an opportunity arose to return to Hartlepool and become First Team Manager which he gladly took. Lee had a short but successful time at the club including a memorable FA Cup 4th round victory against Crystal Palace and he guided them to an EFL Trophy semi-final. Lee went on to take the management job at Marske United and helped the club survive before joining Spennymoor Town in January 2024.

Assistant manager, Ian Clark also had successful playing career. Clark was spotted playing non-league football for his hometown club and was signed by Doncaster Rovers in 1995. Clark spent two seasons with Rovers before leaving to join Hartlepool United in 1997. He remained at Hartlepool for four years before moving on to play for rivals Darlington. Clark then had spells with Scarborough and Gateshead as well as a short stint on loan with Harrogate Town before joining Spennymoor Town on a permanent deal in 2007. Before hanging up his boots, Clark went on to play in non-league for the likes of Norton & Stockton Ancience, Horden CW, Guisborough and Thornaby. After retirement Clark became a member of the coaching staff at Marske United in 2015 and played a significant role as the club moved up the football pyramid to reach the Northern Premier League under the management of Carl Jarrett. He remained at Marske until the appointment of Curtis Woodhouse as boss in November 2022 but returned alongside Jarrett following Woodhouse’s exit and stayed on to assist Graeme Lee when he was placed in charge, and in January 2024 both Graeme Lee and Ian Clark joined Spennymoor Town.
