1 June 2026

Merthyr Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of former Yeovil Town, Eastleigh and Wales U21 forward Sam Pearson ahead of the 2026/27 season
Paul Michael has added the exciting attacking talent to the squad with the signing of Sam Pearson. Pearson, 24, is a forward who came through the academy system at Bristol City and has built experience across the English pyramid, with spells at clubs including Yeovil Town, Weston-Super-Mare, Eastleigh and Dorking Wanderers. A former Wales youth international, he is capable of playing across the front line and arrives with a reputation for direct running, energy and attacking intent.
Sam has been capped 13 times at Wales U21 level, and as well as featuring across the EFL and National League system with spells at AFC Wimbledon, Yeovil Town, Weston-Super-Mare, Eastleigh and Dorking Wanderers, he has also had a spell in Scotland with Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Pearson scored nine goals last season during his time with Weston-Super-Mare, Dorking Wanderers and Eastleigh. During his time at Bristol City, Pearson made five appearances in the EFL Championship, his debut coming away at Queens Park Rangers in March 2021.
Speaking on securing Sam ahead of the 2026/27 season, Paul Michael said, “Sam’s a quality player who I believe will really thrive in the environment here created by our players and staff. He’s had a great grounding at Bristol City and through the Wales age grade teams, we’re really excited to get the best out of him. He’s quick, he likes to run at people and in-behind, he’s technically very good and will score and create goals in our team. I’m really looking forward to working with Sam and integrating him in with the boys over pre-season.”
New signing Sam said, “I can’t wait to get started in pre-season and meet everyone, I’m sure it will be a successful season with the players and staff we have. A big thank you to the gaffer for making this move possible, as soon as we spoke, I knew Merthyr was the place I wanted to be, I can feel the togetherness already with the fans and the club and that’s how it should be at clubs of this size. Thanks again to everyone and can’t wait to see you all at Penydarren Park.”
Everyone at Merthyr Town FC welcomes Sam to the club and wishes him every success at Penydarren Park. Supporters will be looking forward to seeing him in action as excitement continues to build ahead of the 2026/27 season.
