PAUL MICHAEL SIGNS!!

Paul Michael Signs New Two-Year Contract as First Team Manager of Merthyr Town Football Club!

Merthyr Town Football Club is delighted to announce that Paul Michael has signed a new two-year contract to continue as First Team Manager until the summer of 2028, reinforcing the club’s commitment to stability, ambition and long-term progress.

The new deal reflects the club’s confidence in Paul’s leadership and the work being carried out on and off the pitch. Since taking charge of the first team ahead of the 2022/23 season, Paul has instrumented a team that has followed the club’s motto of “Progress Through Stability” on the pitch, with every season leading to a higher league placed position, ending last season in 8th position in the Enterprise National League North. The attacking and possession-based football coached by Paul, has seen attendances almost triple at Penydarren Park, with the exciting-brand of football leading to the squad becoming Southern League Premier South champions in 2024/25.

Paul’s new full-time role will see him work day-to-day in developing the club not just on the field, but off it also – this will include community work, commercial representation with new and existing club partners and working alongside our academy coaches in overseeing the development of our young Martyrs, and familiarising himself with the emerging talent within the academy set-up. Regarding the first-team set-up, Paul’s assistant, Andrew Smith and first-team coach, Craig Reddy, will continue with their roles for the 2026/27 season, along with the physio team of Jack Burgess and Kevin Brain.

Speaking on confirming Paul on a two-year deal, club chairman Les Barlow said, “As a club, I believe we have made a huge step forward in signing Paul on a two-year full-time contract. We have huge faith in Paul to guide us through the next steps of out journey as a club. The backing from the supporters and sponsors has allowed Paul and the club to put a team on the pitch to get us to Step 2, and now we continue to need all our supporters and sponsors to back Paul, the team and the board as we embark on the next step. UTT.”

On agreeing to the new two-year contract, Paul Michael said, “I’m so proud to be manager of Merthyr Town. This new contract not only allows me to give the role the effort it deserves, it also allows me to do everything I can, to this football club, the town and the supporters justice.

I’m determined to continue to drive the club forward on and off the pitch as we aim to fulfil the potential of Merthyr Town Football Club, together. I want to say a special thank you to all the club’s owners, supporters and sponsors, in addition to the board for making this possible.

Now let’s look forward to progressing on the pitch once more and seeing if we can go better next season in the National League North.”

Everyone at Merthyr Town Football Club would like to congratulate Paul on his new contract and wish him continued success in the role. Supporters can look forward to seeing the team continue its journey under his leadership as we head into our second season in the Enterprise National League North.
