New Signing - Cawley Cox

Merthyr Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of striker, Cawley Cox, subject to International Clearance, Southern League and FAW Approval.

Cawley, 20, joins The Martyrs from Hellenic Premier side, Westfields, where he has scored 19 goals in 24 games so far this season for the herefordshire club . The young forward will be familiar to Martyrs fans after his trial period with Merthyr Town in pre-season ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, where he featured in three friendly matches, scoring twice, including grabbing himself a goal against Taffs Well at Rhiw Dda’r.

Following his trial period with The Martyrs, Paul Michael said that “Cawley has impressed us, but at this moment he needs to continue playing regular senior football and maintain the momentum he built up from his 2023/24 season”.

During the 2023/24 season, the hungry young striker who brings a presence to his play, scored 24 goals for Hereford Pegasus in the Hellenic Premier Division, which caught the eyes of a number of clubs in the non-league pyramid.

Speaking on bringing Cawley in to Penydarren Park, Paul Michael said, “Cawley did really well in pre-season and he has gone out and done exactly what we asked of him by playing games regularly and continuing his scoring ratio, but after recent conversations it is evident we both feel it is time for Cawley to come into our environment and further his development.

Cawley has so many great attributes, he’s tall, quick, has a great work ethic and is an excellent finisher, so I believe bringing him in now adds a bit of depth to the front line heading into our final 19 games of the season.

I don’t need to say how well our current front three have done so far this season but we’ve been fortunate with injuries and availability in those positions, and it’s my job to safeguard us in case that changes with so many important games still to play. Cawley will also learn from being in with those boys who are proven at step 3 and we see this as a long term signing.”
