Kane Simpson signs!
19 May 2026

Merthyr Town Football Club are excited to announce the signing of striker, Kane Simpson from Gloucester City, subject to International Clearance and National League approval.
Kane, 29, is a familiar name to Martyrs after his impressive season at Penydarren Park in 2024/25 where his 20 league goals played a pivotal role in our Southern League Premier South title win. Kane has enjoyed a fruitful goalscoring career across the Southern League system with spells at Frome Town, Tiverton Town, Swindon Supermarine and Evesham United before originally joining the Martyrs in the summer of 2024.
Following our League title win in 2024/25, Kane joined Taunton Town, before then moving to Gloucester City in October 2025. Last season saw Kane finish on 21 Southern League goals, his third season in a row of scoring 20 or more league goals. Kane now returns to Penydarren Park looking to make his mark on the step 2 of the non-League pyramid, as the Martyrs face another exciting challenge in the Enterprise National League North. After securing Kane’s return, Paul Michael said, “Kane was a key part of our promotion to the National League North, and we wanted him to stay last summer, so I am delighted that he’ll be returning for the 2026/27 season. All the supporters know that Kane will bring a physical presence, had work, moments of magic but most importantly goals. He got another 25+ goals in all competitions last season, he knows the boys and expectations here at Merthyr, and it’s time he tests himself at this level and I am confident he’ll hit the ground running and improve us for this coming season.”
On agreeing to return to Penydarren Park, Kane said, “It’s a club where the fans made it feel like home from the first moment I stepped foot here, so I am over the moon to be back. I hope I can bring the team the same successes as we did before and have another great season that everyone associated with this club deserves.”
