Jacob Maddox signs!
2 June 2026

Merthyr Town FC are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Jacob Maddox ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. The experienced midfielder joins the Martyrs from 1st July 2026, on conclusion of his current contract with National League side, Yeovil Town.
Maddox first joined the Martyrs on loan from Yeovil Town in February 2026 and brought proven quality and experience to the squad, making a total of 16 appearances and scoring 2 goals. A former Chelsea academy player, the 27-year-old can operate in midfield or as a number 10 and has previously featured for Cheltenham Town, Tranmere Rovers, Vitória de Guimarães, Burton Albion, Walsall, Forest Green Rovers and Yeovil Town.
With more than 100 senior appearances across the EFL and international experience with England up to Under-20 level, Maddox adds pedigree and versatility to Paul Michael’s squad as preparations quickly-approach for the new season. Maddox was also part of the England side that won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2017.
On securing Jacob’s permanent signature, Paul Michael said, “We saw Jacob’s class up close in training and games during his loan spell with us. As his fitness developed so did his performances, as Scarborough on a surface that didn’t suit him he was outstanding and as an example, if you look at the last game against AFC Fylde, against the best in the league, he was one of the players capable of winning duels consistently, taking the ball and making things happen.
It’s testament to the club, the supporters, the staff and the environment that the players have created that Jacob wants to return to us permanently. I feel there is a lot more to come from Jacob, with a full pre-season with our boys I’m very, very excited by this signing.”
Everyone at Merthyr Town FC looks forward to working with Jacob again and wishes him every success at Penydarren Park for the 2026/27 season.
