Following an impressive 3-1 mid-week victory over South Shields, Merthyr's attention now turns to the FA Trophy as they host Southern Premier South side Hanwell Town in a second-round clash. Hanwell Town made their way into the FA Trophy Second round following to victories against Grays Athletic and St Albans City. Hanwell find themselves sitting 11th in the Southern Premier South Division just 4 points above the relegation zone but their most recent league game saw them defeat Tiverton Town 2-0 at home bouncing back from a 4-0 thrashing in the hands of Taunton Town.
Previous Meetings
Merthyr v Hanwell has become somewhat as a regular fixture in recent years with the fixture being played 6 times in the previous 3 seasons with the Martyrs coming out victorious 5 times and losing just once. The last fixture between these two sides at Penydarren Park happened at the start of the 24/25 title winning campaign with the Martyrs coming from behind to win 2-1 after goals from Cole Jarvis and Ricardo Rees. Manager of Hanwell Town Chris Moore began his playing career at Brentford as a youngster before moving to Uxbridge where he played 90 games in 3 years scoring 25 goals. Moore then moved onto Northwood in 2002 and he manager to score 37 goals in 70 appearances for the side between 2002 and 2003. In 2003 Moore made the decision to sign for Dagenham & Redbridge where he played just under 100 games and scored 44 goals before departing in 2006. The next move of Chris Moore's career was to sign for Brentford on a free transfer under manager Leroy Rosenoir. Moore only managed to make 16 appearances for Brentford scoring just 2 but he did score on his League One debut to clinch 3 points for the 'Bees' away at Northampton. Following his exit away from Brentford in 2007 Moore rejoined previous club Dagenham & Redbridge. However, after just a year back at Dagenham & Redbridge, Chris Moore made the move to Chelmsford City where he scored 4 goals in 27 games for the club. In October 2009, Moore then joined Farnborough, but his time there was cut short with only 1 appearance as he was released as he didn't agree terms to stay at the football club and he later rejoined Uxbridge in 2010. Chris Moore played a key role in Uxbridge's side where he scored some vital goals as Uxbridge qualified for the playoffs in the 2011-2012 season. his goal-scoring form carried over to the 2012-2013 season as he yet again bagged some key goals for Uxbridge and in December 2012 he made the switch to Isthmian League side Wealdstone. Despite only spending just over a year at Wealdstone, Meakin at Egham Town but Moore and his assistant were dismissed in January 2018. However, in the 2021-22 season, Moore's managerial career continued as he was appointed joint manager at Hanwell alongside Wayne Carter. The duo led Hanwell to promotion into step 3 for the first time in the club's history after a 3-2 victory over Chertsey Town in the Isthmian South-Central play-off final. Following the promotion Wayne Carter stepped away to take the role as manager at Chertsey Town which left Chris Moore as the sole manager of Hanwell Town where he remains today.

To start their 2025/26 season, Hanwell Town had a tough away game at Poole Town where they were defeated 1-0 after a first half strike from Harvey Slade. Despite this, Chris Moore's side bounced back immediately as they defeated promotion hopefuls Walton & Hersham at home despite going down to ten men in the second half. Hanwell Town then continued this winning mentality and form as they picked up another home victory as they defeated newly promoted side Yate Town 3-0. However, Hanwell struggled in the next few league games as Chris Moore's side went 5 league games without victory while picking up 3 points. In the next game, Hanwell put an end to the poor run of form as they went away to Hungerford and picked up the 3 points in a demolishing 5-1 away victory. Chris Moore's side had to wait another 3 games for their next victory as they lost 2-0 and 1-0 to Dorchester and Evesham which saw them become desperate for a victory to steer them away from the early relegation fight. Their next game was away at Havant & Waterlooville FC here 3 first half goals was enough for them to clinch a 3-2 victory away from home. With the hopes of climbing the table, Hanwell hosted a struggling Taunton Town side. In the latest league fixture prior to the FA Trophy fixture with Merthyr, Hanwell Town hosted a struggling Tiverton Town. Chris Moore's side took full advantage of Tiverton's struggles and scored twice in the second half to claim all 3 points in a 2-0 win. This performance saw Hanwell Town climb up to 12th in the league table on 18 points. In the FA Trophy Hanwell defeated both Grays Athletic and St Albans City to be rewarded with a trip to South Wales and a clash with National League North side Merthyr Town. in the second round. The top goal-scorers for Hanwell Town have been Jordy Mongoy and Daniel Carr who have both scored 4 league goals so far this season.
