FSA's 'Away Day of the Year' Award
30 May 2023
An afternoon spent at Penydarren Park is not just about the football. It will include animated conversations with friends, enjoying a pre-match drink, eating cob and chips, being entertained, enjoying yourself, listening to music plus the football – they all go together. This is the unique experience that had been created for all fans which has now been recognised with the Club being voted as the best away day experience by visiting fans.
Southern League Chairman, Anthony Hughes, picked up the Football Supporters Association ‘Supporters Away Day of the Year' award on behalf of the Club, at the National Game Awards held recently at AFC Wimbledon.
He spoke of the transformation of the experience for visiting supporters that has taken place. “An awful lot of work has gone into making the Club a welcoming place and it’s thoroughly deserved. I now see the club as a genuine hub of the community. It fills me with huge pride, especially to see them recognised with this kind of award. They put a tremendous effort into welcoming away fans and that is what is unique about non-league football.”
Chairman Les Barlow also expressed his delight at the award. “We try to look after everyone. Receiving this award shows that we are doing something right and we are grateful to the people who voted for us.”
It’s been one of the Club’s priorities to implement a cultural reset on match-days, injecting some positive ‘energy’ to the overall experience.
There are often ‘live’ events in the clubhouse before kick off and post-game. This has all helped to generate the ‘feel good’ factor that has improved the general atmosphere in the ground.
