Cole Jarvis returns!

Merthyr Town Football Club are delighted to announce the return of Cole Jarvis, who rejoins the Martyrs on a loan deal from EFL League Two side Newport County until 1 January 2027.

The versatile midfielder, who can also operate in attack, needs little introduction to supporters at Penydarren Park. A product of the Merthyr Town Academy, Cole made his first-team debut at the age of 16 before gaining senior experience across the Welsh football pyramid with Llanrumney United, Cardiff Corinthians and Newport City.

Paul Michael brought Cole back to the club in the summer of 2024, and he quickly became a fans' favourite, playing a key role in our Southern League Premier South title-winning campaign. Across his time with the Martyrs, he made 82 appearances and scored 17 goals, including seven in the Enterprise National League North during the first half of last season.

His performances earned him a move to Newport County in February 2026, fulfilling his dream of playing in the full-time game. Cole made his EFL debut against Grimsby Town just days after signing and went on to make 11 League Two appearances during the second half of the 2025/26 season. He opened his Newport County scoring account in August, finding the net against Bristol Rovers.

Cole now wearing the number 40 shirt, returns to Penydarren Park to gain regular first-team minutes, and he will be available for selection for our National League North fixture at Darlington tomorrow.

Speaking on Cole's return, Paul Michael said, “It’s a big boost to bring Cole back in at this time of the season, we all know what he’s going to give us on the pitch, he’s going to bring athleticism, a physical presence a lot of quality and hopefully impact in both boxes. I’d like to say a big thank you to Hayden Mullins and everyone at Newport County for trusting us with giving Cole competitive minutes, hopefully this spell will help Cole get that regular match fitness and it will be beneficial for all parties. I’d also like to thank those supporters who have contributed to boost the budget scheme, whether that’s from the start of the season or those that have contributed this week, this has helped enable this move to happen." .

Everyone at Merthyr Town Football Club would like to welcome Cole back home and thank Newport County for their support in completing the loan.
