Caleb Hughes signs!
30 October 2026

Merthyr Town Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Caleb Hughes.
Hughes, 23, joins the Martyrs as Paul Michael continues to add to his attacking options ahead of this weekend’s trip to Radcliffe. Some Martyrs fans will be familiar with Caleb after the young Welsh attacker was on trial with the Martyrs throughout pre-season, which included him grabbing goals against Briton Ferry Llansawel and Forest Green Rovers.
Aberdare-born Caleb began his professional journey with Cardiff, signing his first contract on his 17th birthday after progressing through their academy, where he represented both the U18 and U21 teams, before being involved in around the first team. He also gained valuable experience in senior football with loan spells in the Cymru Premier with Haverfordwest County. After leaving Cardiff City at the close of the 2023/24 season, Caleb joined National League side, Yeovil Town but his game-time at Huish Park was limited due to injuries. Earlier this season, Caleb featured briefly in the Cymru Premier for Cambrian United but left the club in September 2026.
On adding Caleb to the squad, Paul Michael said “obviously our supporters would have seen Caleb in pre-season when he scored three goals. We could see his ability with the ball from minute one of his first session with us, but at that time we weren’t able to structure the right kind of deal, and Caleb was still exploring full-time football options. So, it is great that we’ve been able to add him to the squad currently, as his ability on the ball and around the box is frightening. Caleb will want to prove that he can get a run of games injury free and contribute to both sides of the ball, and if he can do that this will be a great deal for us and Caleb.”
Caleb’s registration has been accepted by the National League and FAW, so is eligible for tomorrow’s trip to Radcliffe. Everyone at Merthyr Town Football Club would like to welcome Caleb to the club and wish him every success at Penydarren Park.
