Board Statement regarding Security
4 April 2026
The Board are aware of questions regarding the level of security at the recent game against Oxford.
Firstly, we hope this did not overly impact the matchday experience. This is extremely important to us as Directors of the Club, and has been the subject of various papers and discussions at recent Board meetings.
Alongside supporting a winning & entertaining team, and ensuring the ongoing viability of the Club, our primary concern on matchdays is the safety and security of everyone in the ground. As Directors, this responsibility is not optional — it is imposed by statute, licensing rules, and common‑law duties of care, and is further strengthened by recent legislation such as Martyn’s Law, as well as the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025.
To support this, matchday safety arrangements are informed by the Safety Advisory Group (SAG). This is a multi‑agency advisory body led by the Local Authority, with representation from the Police, Fire & Ambulance services, as well as Club representatives. The SAG provides coordinated expert advice for events and public gatherings, including sports grounds such as Penydarren Park. While the SAG advises however, the Club remains legally responsible for ensuring appropriate measures are in place.
Unfortunately, there has been a noticeable increase in crowd‑related issues across football at all levels, including non‑league. This trend has been highlighted in national media, and is taken into account by the SAG and by the Club when planning matchday operations.
The Board plan on conducting a full review after the Hereford game this coming week, when we expect all relevant information to be available. Our intention is to share the key findings and any lessons learned with owners.
In closing, as well as safety, ensuring the enjoyment of the matchday experience is at the forefront of our thinking. Please continue to support the Club — particularly at this important stage of the season as we push for further success.
Wishing you all a very Happy Easter.
