Jay Foulston signs!
29 June 2026

Merthyr Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of defender Jay Foulston from Torquay United, with the Welshman joining the Martyrs on a deal until the end of the 2026/27 season.
Foulston arrives with strong experience across the non-league game, having represented Torquay United, Taunton Town, Yeovil Town and Chippenham Town, as well as beginning his senior career with Newport County. He also previously spent time with the Martyrs on loan during the 2018/19 campaign.
A former Wales Under-19 and Under-21 international, Foulston is a left-sided defender who can operate across the back line and brings composure, defensive strength and valuable senior experience to the squad. His arrival adds further quality and depth to the squad as pre-season preparations begin this week at Penydarren Park.
Speaking on the signing of Jay, Paul Michael said “When it became apparent that Jay may be available it was something that we had to pursue. Jay’s at a point in his career where he’s had lots of national league and national league south experience, he knows what it takes to win and we need him to bring his leadership qualities and ability to the Martyrs. If we are going to be truly successful then we need a core of players who really should be playing at a higher level than where we are and Jay certainly falls into that category, alongside a number of others in this squad. Jay has a wand of a left foot, he’s tall, he’s defensively very good with a brilliant range of passing. Jay, similarly, to Sam Pearson, is a Welsh boy who has been playing across the bridge that we’ve admired for some time. We always try to be across the best talent from South Wales with an eye on opportunities to bring players like Jay home.”
Everyone at Merthyr Town would like to welcome Jay to the club and wish him every success during his time at Penydarren Park.
