Merthyr Town Football Club are delighted to announce the loan signing of Will Spiers from Cardiff City until 31 st December 2025, subject to National League approval.

Right-sided defender, Will, can operate as a right-back, right wing-back or centre-back and has heavily featured for Cardiff City U21s in all three positions, as well as featuring for the Bluebirds first team earlier this season in the Vertu Trophy. As well as his time with Cardiff City, Spiers has also been capped at Wales U18 and Wales U19 Internationals.

Spiers, 19, joined the Cardiff City Academy at the age of 7, and the Abergavenny-based youngster impressed throughout showcasing his athletic and defensive capabilities as both Wingback and Centre Back. His impressive performances throughout the Cardiff City age groups then earned Will his first professional contract with the club in July 2024.

Speaking on securing the loan signing of Will, Paul Michael said, “We thank Cardiff City and all the staff there for allowing Will to come and join us on an initial short-term loan. Will has excelled in the 21’s for a period of time, made his first team debut against Newport County recently and hopefully exposure to regular senior football over a very busy schedule for us allows Will to continue his development.”
