Tom Hillman re-joins Merthyr Town

Merthyr Town Football Club is pleased to confirm the signing of Tom Hillman from Llanelli Town.

The 22-year-old re-joins after a short spell with the club during the 2021/22 season where he featured 26 times, scoring two goals.

Prior to joining the Martyrs that season, Hillman spent time at Mangotsfield United shortly before a move to Larkhall Athletic in the Southern League Football League Division One South.

Hillman began his career at Sky Bet League Two side Newport County before his release in the summer of 2019. The tricky winger made his debut for the first team in the Checkatrade Trophy against Cheltenham Town in November 2017, but that was his only senior outing for the Exiles.

Speaking after his signature was confirmed, manager Paul Michael said: “Tom’s had an excellent period away from the club and developed under Lee John at Llanelli over the last season and a half. I’ve always been interested in Tom and tracked him from Newport to Mangos, from Larkhall to Merthyr.

“I believe his direct running in wide areas, his work rate off the ball, his quality with the ball and his desire to run in behind will improve us next season. I also think Tom has unfinished business here and I’m looking forward to working with him finally and seeing him flourish next season.”
