Cole Jarvis Joins the Martyrs
2 June 2024
Merthyr Town Football Club are excited to announce the signing of Cole Jarvis ahead of the 2024/25 season, subject to FAW and Southern League approval.
Cole, 22, joins the Martyrs after a very successful 2023/24 campaign with Newport City, in which he featured heavily in securing the clubs promotion into the Cymru South for the 2024/25 season. His impressive performances for The Steelmen last season, created a large amount of interest this summer in Cole, including from a number of JD Cymru Premier teams. Jarvis was formerly part of the Merthyr Town Academy featuring for both the U16’s and U19’s before making a handful of first team appearances in 2017/18, with his first team debut coming away at St Neots in December 2017. Since departing the Martyrs at the end of that season, the versatile midfielder has featured for several Welsh League clubs including Risca United, Cardiff Corinthians, Llanrumney United and most recently, Newport City.
After agreeing terms with Cole, first team manager Paul Michael said “I have tracked Cole since there were good reports about him at Llanrumney, and I then managed to see him four times in the second half of the season at Newport City, who were an excellent outfit by the way, and I think they will do well in the Cymru South next season.
Every time I saw Cole, I was more and more impressed. He’s got everything you look for in a midfielder, he his around 6ft 2, he’s technically very good, one minute he’s carrying the ball at full steam past defenders, then he’s spraying passes, the next minute he’s scoring headers in one box, before winning aerial duals in his own box. He is very strong in the tackle and is physically imposing and this summer for us was about keeping the squad and adding players who can technically fit into the way we want to play but can also make us a little more robust.
I’m confident Cole fits that bracket having watched him so often and seen his characteristics consistently. He is also a great age to fit in with our lads and to keep developing as a footballer. I think this is just another step on the ladder for Cole and he’s a great example to players who don’t come through the professional clubs pathway, that if you get out, play games and work hard, you can still progress to a good standard of football, and I am now really excited to see him in a Merthyr jersey next season.”
