Match Report:

Merthyr Town lost for the first time since November as Beaconsfield Town claimed a 3-2 victory at Penydarren Park.

Goals from Alex John and Lewys Twamley weren’t enough for the Martyrs as Asher Yearwood, Tom McElory and an own goal from Callum Ryan-Phillips meant that the visitors would take all three points.

The match started brightly for the Martyrs with chances for Ricardo Rees and Gethyn Hill but both were well saved by Beaconsfield goalkeeper Matthew Rowley.

The first goal of the game went the way of the Martyrs with John slotting his freekick into the bottom right corner of the goal.

After the first goal Beaconsfield started to build pressure on the Merthyr goal. This pressure would result in a goal for Yearwood who connected with a good cross to equalize.

With the game now in added time Beaconsfield would grab their second of the match through McElory after some good build up play and give the visitors the lead going into halftime.

The second half didn’t start well for the Martyrs as Beaconsfield would add a third goal due to an unfortunate own goal from Callum Ryan-Phillips.

Unfortunately, the Martyrs couldn’t get any foothold for most of the second half until Twamley turned in a cross to give the home side hope of a comeback.

The closest that Merthyr came to an equaliser was through Noah Smerdon whose shot flashed over the bar.

Despite their best efforts the Martyrs couldn’t find that crucial goal and the match would end for a valuable win for Beaconsfield.
