Match Preview | Merthyr Town vs. Winchester City

Merthyr Town return to Southern League Premier South action on Tuesday night as Winchester City visit Penydarren Park (7.45pm).
The Martyrs will look to take all three points in this midweek fixture after drawing their last two matches 1-1 against Hayes & Yeading United and Plymouth Parkway.
Opposition in focus
Winchester City were formed in 1891 as Winchester Swallows FC. However, in 1894 they changed their name to Winchester F.C., there was a further name change happened in 1907 when they became Winchester City F.C.
In 2014, Winchester reached the third qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time in 59 years, but they were beaten 3-2 by Concord Rangers. The following season Winchester finished 2nd in the Wessex League Premier Division and, after Flackwell Heath turned down the opportunity of promotion from Step 5 to Step 4 of the National League System, were offered the vacant space in the Southern League Division One South & West.
The club became famous in July 2018 when French football player Ousmane Dembélé played Football Manager for it.
Winchester City are managed by former Cardiff City player Craig Davis. He joined Winchester City as Interim Player-Manager from Fleet Town in the 2016-17 campaign and has remained at the helm since.
Davis has led City on several impressive FA Cup runs and guided his side to the First Round Proper of the FA Trophy this season, another first for the red and blacks.
Previous Results
The points were shared in the last match played between these two sides last season. First half goals from Ricardo Rees and Lewis Powell gave The Martyrs a 2-0 lead going into the break, but goals from Simba Miambo and Warren Bentley salvaged a point for City.
