The Martyrs made the long trip to Chesham looking to get the new season off to a positive start.
The Martyrs included new signings Joe Perry, Craig McDonnell, Joe Hunt, Kieran Lewis, Connor Young and Tom Meechan in the squad for the trip, with Kyle Patten & Matthew Harris missing due to injury..
The Martyrs began well forcing a number of corners but it was the home side who had the first chance on 12 minutes with a dangerous free kick from 25 yards narrowly missing the target.
Shortly after this Ryan Prosser was withdrawn with an injury and replaced by Tom Meechan.
The Martyrs took the lead on 24 minutes when an inch perfect ball over the top from Adam Davies matched the excellent run of Ian Traylor who made no mistake with his shot into the far corner of the net from just inside the area.
The Martyrs were now dominant forcing the home side to defend deeper and deeper and it was no surprise on 40 minutes when they doubled their advantage, and it was that man Traylor again with a crisp finish underneath the advancing Chesham keeper following a good ball through by Kieran Lewis.
HALF TIME 0-2
The Martyrs started the second half just as they ended the first by putting the home side on the back foot, and it was 3-0 on 56 minutes when a dangerous Traylor corner was flicked by Corey Jenkins across goal and was turned in by a Chesham defender to wrap the game up as a contest.
The home side rallied late on with a flurry of corners and possession without really troubling Joe Perry in the Merthyr goal, but a good turn and shot from Blake in the closing minutes cannoned back of the foot of the post with Perry beaten, however the Martyrs held out for what was a comfortable opening day win.
