Last week our Community engagement programme achieved another unique milestone when Merthyr College students visited the MetCoaches Stadium as part of their Sports Science studies to observe and play sessions of walking football as the alternative sports part of the curriculum.
Our partnership with the College also includes their use of the 3G pitch to play competitive games in the inter College competition and for training sessions on a Wednesday afternoon.
The students initially observed one of the twice weekly sessions that Merthyr Walking Football group play and they then found out that making the transition from running to walking was not as easy as it sounds!
However, this allowed the students to experience a tailored part of their football development meshed seamlessly with their academic studies.
Hopefully, this joint commitment from club and College will help to build unique learning environments.
Club chairman Les Barlow has expressed his excitement about the partnership. He said: “The launch of this initiative and partnership with Merthyr College is another important step in the progress of our work with the community. We are determined to continue our momentum and to make sure the club is well positioned for success in our various community activities.”
