Didcot Town - Match Day Guide - Saturday 27th January 2024

The Martyrs welcome Didcot Town to Penydarren Park on Saturday afternoon in the Pitching IN Southern League Premier (3pm Kick Off).


The Martyrs will be looking to return to winning ways after two difficult 3-2 losses to Beaconsfield and Dorchester in the last two weeks. All the information below, including admission prices, keeps you in the know for all the events happening around the ground on Saturday afternoon.


Arriving at Penydarren Park

The gates at PP will be open from 12:30 – two hours and a half before kick-off against Didcot Town. Supporters are encouraged to arrive in good time, to enter the ground as easily as possible, and arrive ahead of kick-off at 3pm.


Cash and Card payments are now being accepted on the Turnstiles at the entrance to the Lyn Jones Grandstand.

Admission Prices

  • Adults - £12

  • Concessions - £9

  • Discounted Price - £9 (Included for season ticket holders of Cardiff City, Swansea City, Newport County and Wrexham)

  • Children (U16) - £2

Calling all Welsh EFL Club fans don’t forget that you get the reduced entry of £9 into any Martyrs home league games, on production of a valid 2023/24 Season Ticket for Cardiff City, Swansea City, Newport or Wrexham.


There are no pre-sale tickets for the game with all payments ONLY on the gate. However, card payment is now accepted on Lyn Jones Grandstand Turnstile, as well as cash payments.


Car Parking

Limited parking at the ground will be available and the car park will probably be closed early, so please respect the local residents and find a convenient parking space in the town centre car park or College car park both just a few minutes’ walk from the ground.


Bar & Food Facilities

Before kick-off tomorrow, you can purchase a range of drinks from both of the club’s bar.

Both Romans Bar and Webley’s will be open from 12.30pm. If visiting Romans pre-game, please only pay at the turnstiles when making the entry to the stadium. 

Holveys Café will be open from 2pm serving hot food, including the famous cob and chips.


Remembering Anthony Hughes

After the terribly sad loss of Anthony Hughes earlier this week, as a club we will be remembering him on Saturday by holding a minute’s silence ahead of kick-off. The Merthyr Town players will also be wearing black armbands as a sign of remembrance for Anthony.


Club Chaplain, David Powell, has also arranged a book of condolences at the ground, which will be available for supporters and friends to leave their messages.


Pre-Match Presentations

Ahead of kick-off there will be a couple of presentations made. Firstly, Club Captain Matthew Harris played his 400 th game for the club at Dorchester Town last weekend, therefore the club will be presenting Matthew with a special gift ahead at pitch side ahead of kick-off.


Secondly, we are delighted to be joined at the game by Southern League president, Keith Allen, and Southern League Acting Chairman, David Martin, who will be presenting our December 2023 – Southern League Club of the Month award to Les Barlow and Paul Michael.


FA Cup – Live on TV

There will be full coverage of the following FA Cup ties, starting with Ipswich Town v Maidstone United at 12:30, followed by Fulham v Newcastle United at 19:00. Both games will be shown on the screens in Webleys Bar, and the big screen in Romans.


Club Shop

Pay a visit to the ‘Merthyr Town Club Shop’ and purchase our replica kits, leisurewear, and accessories. The store will be opening its doors from 2pm, giving Martyr’s fans plenty of time to visit before entering PP!


50/50 Tickets & Matchday Programme

Our usual 50/50 tickets will be available to purchase around the ground on Saturday at just £1. The draw will be made at half-time, with the winner being announced by our matchday announcer.

Pick up a copy of our matchday programme on Saturday at just £2. The programmes will be on sale around the ground prior to kick-off.


Didcot Town – One To Watch

Didcot’s attacking midfielder, Patrick Osborne is currently on 6 league goals so far this season, and has become a key player to the Railwaymen, after initially joining on a Dual-Registration basis from Oxford City in early 2023. Ahead of the 2023/24 season, Osborne joined permanently in July from the National League club.

The Martyrs are currently sitting 3 rd in the League table, seven points off current leaders, Chesham United. Whereas Didcot currently sit in 21st position, 7 points adrift from safety.


Previous Result

The last meeting between the two sides, saw the Martyrs travel to Oxfordshire on a Tuesday evening in September, where a first half goal from Patrick Osbourne was cancelled out by two superb efforts in the second half from Alex John and Tom Hillman to ensure the Martyrs brought three points back to South Wales.
