Gavin Williams’ side sealed their third consecutive pre-season win with a 4-3 victory over FAW Championship side Cwmbran Celtic.

A first half stunning strike from Kerry Morgan along with second half goals from Gethyn Hill, Owain Jones and Jarrad Wright sealed a victory for the Martyrs.

The visitors starting on the front foot which caused Cameron Clarke to spring into action pulling off a fine double save to deny Nicky Morgan’s’ side the lead.

A great darting run down the left-hand side from Camdan Duncan created the opening goal for Merthyr as he squared a delicious pass to the feet of Kerry Morgan who fired his sweet strike into the far top right-hand corner.

Cwmbran Celtic, however equalised just eleven minutes later through Simon Prangley who curled his free kick fantastically into the far left-hand corner from an acute angle.

Just one minute later they took the lead and what a goal it was from their no.9. Chris Ham producing a phenomenal overhead kick just inside the box which powered past the stretching Cameron Clarke.

The Newport based side continued to dominate the half and found their third through Louis Feeley on the 25-minute mark who found space just outside the box to bend his brilliant strike into the roof of the net to extend the Celts lead to a two-goal advantage.

After making ten changes at half time Gavin Williams’ side started the half the better side creating some early chances. Firtsly through winger Owain Jones whose strike was denied by an excellent save from goalkeeper Scott James. Then Secondly from Jones again who saw his fierce strike rattle just wide of the goal.

Finally, though Merthyr’s pressure finally paid of as they pulled a goal back through defender Jarrad Wright who showed great wiliness inside the box beating his man in the air to guide his header into the bottom right-hand corner putting his side one step closer to completing the comeback.

Just minutes later the Martyrs found the equaliser through former Swans player Owain Jones who showed great composure inside the penalty area to neatly finish into the empty net past the advancing goalkeeper.

After continued pressure Ian Traylor made an amazing run down the left-hand side beating his man before delivering a low driven cross into the path of summer signing Gethyn Hill who calmly tucked away his third goal of the pre-season campaign.

It was to be another successful victory for the Martyrs who now travel to Cyncoedd Camapus on Saturday to take on Christian Edwards’ Cardiff Met.
