Over the next few days information will be provided on the initatives that the Club's Community Foundation will provide, when it is once again safe to do so. Today the focus is on the work that will take place with primary school children (Years 1 to 6).
PRIMARY SCHOOLS INITIATIVE
The Foundation offers Primary Schools ‘After-school’ sessions for Years 1 to 6, to introduce them to the concept of being part of a team environment.
The Martyrs-themed resources pack encourage literacy and numeracy skills through fun, engaging activities. Pupils write match reports, come up with interview questions and devise football skills games related to Merthyr Town that reinforce basic literacy and numeracy concepts learnt in curriculum time.
It’s learning by stealth!
The ground is also used by Active Merthyr for football based activity by every primary school within the County Borough. This provides opportunities for pupils with a means of staying active and healthy, while also promoting other community based sessions that we run.
In partnership with Wales and West Housing, a mini-football tournament takes place every May, attracting teams from all over South East and South West Wales. This has been temporarily suspended during the pandemic.
The Community Foundation would also be keen to be involved in any youth engagement football sessions.
HOLIDAY SOCCER CAMPS
Our Soccer Schools are delivered in a safe environment for boys and girls aged from 5-15 years old and are led by friendly and experienced coaches who are FAW qualified, hold current DBS checks, safeguarding children qualifications and emergency first aid certificates.
Each course includes warm-up reaction games, small sided matches, fun tournaments as well as technique training with the emphasis on having FUN!
Our courses also provide the opportunity for children to meet new friends.
Each child who takes part in our courses receives a certificate of completion, as well as the opportunity to meet the Merthyr Town manager! (when available).
