Everyone connected with the Club has been sad to learn of the passing of former Vice-Chairman Paul Owen.

Paul was invited to join the Board of Directors in July 1986, after a number of Board members had resigned. This ultimately led to Eddie Thomas Junior reshaping the Board.

Also joining the Board at Penydarren Park during that close season were John Reddy, Gerald Collins, Roger Adlam and Paul himself.

The new Board elected John Eastment as their new Chairman as the Club was about to embark on an exciting period in our history, climbing through the non-league pyramid under the astute leadership of Lyn Jones.

A prominent local businessman Paul, who owned a garage on Pentrebach Road, was at the centre of a sustained period of success for the Martyrs that included the Welsh Cup win against Newport County,a promotion to the Southern League Premier Division and the remarkable 2-1 victory over Atalanta in the European Cup Winners Cup.

Although Paul left the Board in 1988, he continued to support the Club and was a regular visitor to Penydarren Park until last season.
