Merthyr Town Football Club - Pre-season Update

With this, the last 5 months being some of the most testing faced by clubs, supporters, key workers and businesses, a return to football has certainly brought an element of hope and optimism to everyone involved at Merthyr Town Football Club, with Saturday 19th September 2020 being the return date for the Martyrs to southern league action.

However, by following government and national governing body guidelines, it will ensure our return to football is a safe one. At the moment, it currently means that our pre-season schedule, including training and friendlies, will be behind-closed-doors. This is clearly frustrating for supporters, staff, and players as we are all keen to return to our ‘normal’ football situations.

As a club, we have been working hard throughout lockdown to arrange friendlies with local teams and higher-caliber teams, however, those plans have been re-considered as without fans, hosting friendlies with higher-caliber teams, would not be as beneficial for the club.

Understandably this is frustrating for all involved, especially for first-team manager, Gavin Williams, who aims to get a range of testing pre-season fixtures to ensure the Martyrs are ready for when they return to league action.

At the moment, Bristol Manor Farm (Away) is the only confirmed friendly on Saturday 5th September 2020, with a couple of other teams penciled in and looking to be confirmed very soon.

As a club we aim to bring you live updates of all pre-season fixtures via our social media streams, ensuring you can follow the Martyrs preparations for the upcoming Southern League season.

In regards to the ‘re-introduction’ of supporters, Merthyr Town Football Club will update everyone as soon as any information is received. Finally, we would like to thank you for your continued support of all initiatives being run by our club and it’s supporters. Also, your response to the ‘Boost The Budget’ campaign and the 2020/21 Season Tickets and Memberships has been very impressive, and we hope the fantastic support continues!
