Gavin Williams has added to his defensive options with the re-signing of 24-year old Dan Summerfield.

Summerfield spent 3 seasons in the Martyrs from 2013 before leaving to study a university degree at Birmingham University.

The right sided player is an accomplished player who can play anywhere across the back four which has seen him represent the likes of Swansea City, Newport County, Halesowen and Stratford Town in his career.

He was also part of the league winning team that won the Southern League South & West Division under former manager Steve Jenkins back in 2014.

The talented full back re-joins the club from JD Cymru Premiership side Penybont whom are playing in the top tier of Welsh Football for the first time in their history.

The defender now arrives back at Merthyr, in the squad to face Backfield & Langley, ready to extend the Martyrs’ run of form.

Speaking on his return, manager Gavin Williams said: “It’s great to have Dan back at the club. We’ve had a lot of injuries this season defensively so to have Dan back is a great addition to the squad. Obviously to lose Lewis Binns early on the season and with Adam struggling we thought it was the right decision to bring another defensive player in”.
