After 7 years the 3G pitch at Penydarren Park is now coming to the end of its intended life cycle. As custodians of the pitch, it's main purpose has always been to encourage and provide a healthy and activity lifestyle for a cross section of age groups within the community and our surrounding areas.
While the surface was being inspected recently, the Club had been advised by the installers that we needed to reduce the use to between 20 and 25 hours per week until a replacement carpet is laid, in order to slow down the wear of the surface.
The time allocated for casual hire is reduced considerably by the Club’s internal use and income generated from the pitch hire to supplement the capital replacement costs had been forecasted to be reduced considerably. The pitch still has to be maintained to an extremely high standard to pass the annual external safety test, which incurs additional operating costs.
The previous decision to increase the hire costs was taken to maintain the level of income in line with the reduced hours the pitch was available for casual hire to the community. This was made a number of months before any decision to ‘suspend’ the football element of the business for the 2020-21 season.
The Board met recently and discussed the hire charges as there is now increased capacity on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings plus Saturday for wider community use.
We now wish to announce that a decision has been made to reduce the costs of hire for the remainder of 2020 and through to April 2021, due to the additional times that have now become available for community use.
