We are extremely pleased and proud to announce that Peter Evans, the owner and Managing Director of MetCoaches, has agreed to extend his sponsorship of the MetCoaches Community Stadium for a further 12 months, despite the fact that their business suffering considerably during the pandemic which affected their work in private hire and schools contracts.
Peter said “I am delighted to take up the sponsorship for the 2021/22 season, a Club that has been close to my heart for over 50 years. As a close friend of Philip Flye, I am pleased that part of the sponsorship deal includes the naming of a hospitality box in honour of Philip in recognition of his dedication and commitment to football in Merthyr over many years.”
Growing up in Garden City, Penydarren, Peter attended Bishop Hedley High School and played for Castle Rangers, Hoover and Merthyr Cavaliers. He worked at the Hoover factory in Pentrebach before leaving Merthyr when he was 23 years of age in search for his fortune elsewhere.
He settled in London doing a computing course and also worked at Ford in Dagenham.
He was nearly 40 when he started his own business, after initially delivering newspapers in his early thirties. He converted a van into a mini-bus and then applied for his operating licence and PSV licence.
MetCoaches was established in 1995, and is based in Watford, Hertfordshire. It now employs over 30 staff with 25 vehicles, from smaller minibuses to executive coaches for elite sports teams.
"I just feel I always want to prove people wrong," Peter said. "I went to school and I was sport-mad so my education always came second. You have to be driven. When someone says you can't do that, if you don't try you'll never get anywhere.
"I still believe it's essential to get a good education. But I'm also a great believer in learning skills. Everybody is good at some sort of skill."
