Merthyr Town Football Club can today confirm their 2022/23 pre-season schedule. The Martyrs have confirmed four home pre-season friendlies, along with four away fixtures.

The matches will see Paul Michael's side play a series of warm-up games before the start of the Southern League Divison One South campaign.

Pre-season schedule;

Saturday 9th July

Carlton Town (H)

3pm Kick Off

We welcome Carlton to Merthyr in a return fixture of the pre-season friendly which took place in Nottingham last July. Carlton will be playing in the Northern Premier Division One East, the same level of the Non-League pyramid as ourselves but in the Northern section, this season.

Tuesday 12th July

Llanelli Town (A)

7:30pm Kick-Off

Wednesday 13th July

Treharris (A)

7:00pm Kick-Off

Saturday 16th July

Cardiff Met (H)

2pm Kick-Off

Saturday 23rd July

City of Liverpool (H)

3pm Kick-Off

We originally hosted the City of Liverpool in a friendly during July 2018. The game ended in a 4-2 victory for the Martyrs, with a fantastic crowd at The Met Coaches Community Stadium thanks to the ever-loyal Martyrs supporters, and the fantastic travelling C.O.L FC fan base. City of Liverpool currently play in the Northern Premier Division One West, the equivalent to ourselves but in the Northern section.

Saturday 30th July

Tiverton Town (A)

2pm Kick-Off

Tuesday 2nd August

Abertillery Bluebirds (A)

7:30pm Kick-Off

We will travel to Abertillery Bluebirds in our final away friendly of the campaign. Abertillery, along with ourselves, are linked through the proud sponsorship of Candour Talent.

Saturday 6th August

Gresley Rovers (H)

3pm Kick Off

Our final Saturday friendly before our new Southern League season kicks off will see us entertain Gresley Rovers of the Northern Premier Division One (Midlands section). Martyrs fans will remember us facing Gresley Rovers quite regularly in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with Gresley last visiting us during the 2002/03 Dr Martens League campaign.

Speaking on our upcoming pre-season campaign, Manager Paul Michael said: "I’m very pleased with the line up we have put together for pre-season having been playing catch up a little. Playing strong step 4 clubs every other week will give us a great idea of how we are progressing throughout pre-season with a road trip to Tivy who ended the season as one of the most inform teams at step 3. Throw in a few games against teams from various level of the Cymru leagues and I think we have a good balance that will prepare us well for August 13th and beyond.”
