New Signing - Adulai Sambu
6 January 2025
Merthyr Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of former Cheltenham Town and Rushall Olympic attacking midfielder, Adulai Sambu, subject to International Clearance, Southern League and FAW Approval.
Adulai, 20, was born in Lisbon, Portugal but moved to Manchester at the age of 4, before he and his family moved to South London a short while later. At the age of 16, Cheltenham Town offered Sambu a contract and he signed for the Robins in the summer of 2021. During his early days at Cheltenham, Adulai had a loan spell with Cirencester Town, and featured against the Martyrs in our FA Cup Qualifying Round tie against the Centurions in September 2022, where he scored at Penydarren Park to force a replay, in which the Martyrs won 2-1. Adulai scored 20 goals in 27 games for Cirencester Town across two spells.
He spent the back end of the 2023/24 season on loan at fellow Southern League Premier South club, Hungerford Town, where he scored 7 goals and got 6 assists in 25 appearances for the Crusaders. Sambu made 6 first team appearances across Sky Bet League One and League Two for Cheltenham Town, before departing the club in the summer of 2024.
Adulai joined National League North side, Rushall Olympic at the start of the 2024/25 season, and later rejoined Hungerford Town on a dual-registration basis at the end of October 2024.
Speaking on signing Adulai, Paul Michael said, “I’ve tracked Adulai since his time with Cheltenham and have always been impressed whenever I saw him, he was a real threat against us for Cirencester a couple of years ago with his pace and tenchical ability.
On leaving Cheltenham Town this summer, he had an injury and this season hasn’t really got started for him for a number of reasons, but he’s a very talented ambitious young player who I think will excel in our environment.
Adulai is also very versatile having initially signed his deal at Cheltenham as a central midfielder, as well as playing wing-back for Cheltenham and the gaining experience on both wings during his loan spells with Cirencester and Hungerford Town, I’m looking forward to getting him in with the boys this week.”
