For most people in football the summertime is an opportunity to rest and relax in preparation for another busy season, but for four of our Academy coaches, this isn’t the case at all.
Instead they have been busy and eager to gain some invaluable experience whilst coaching overseas!
The 2017/18 season will be Dominic’s first season with the Merthyr Town Academy. He joins us from Melita FC in Malta where he combined coaching roles at youth level, with First Team duties as Assistant Coach, Opposition Scout, and Video Analyst.
Dominic made a brief return to Malta for 2 weeks in July to coach at the AC Milan Academy Summer Camp based in the popular tourist town of St. Julians. Players aged 11-16 came from countries such as Colombia, Hungary, and Poland to receive top coaching and with the hope of being selected for a further trial with the Rossoneri.
Dominic will be overseeing Merthyr Town Community Trust’s projects in his role as Community Development Officer but he will also be coaching our U12 Academy team during the upcoming season.

A student at University of South Wales in Football Coaching and Performance, Daniel spent last season coaching a variety of age groups between the U9 to U13 age groups alongside the girls teams. He has spent 10 weeks out in the U.S.A coaching with Challenger Sports.
Daniel has been delivering sessions from 9am until 4pm everyday for touring teams, as well as recreational teams around the Mid Atlantic region of the states.
Our U13s Academy boys will be Daniel’s main focus at the club for coming season.

Our Academy U11 coach, Kas Taylor, has also spent some time in the US. He’s been coaching at various locations across Texas and Louisiana for Challenger Sports.
Kas - also a student of Football Coaching and Performance at USW - has been delivering sessions for soccer camps and for local junior teams based in Austin, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans.
Delivering 10 sessions per week whilst also delivering extra clinics for goalkeepers and individuals, Kas has been hard at work. He is now looking forward to another successful season coaching our Academy U11s.
Isaac Berry has been predominantly working with Challenger Sports ‘British Soccer’ programme, combining coaching duties with soccer clubs along with recreational football centres.
Over the 9 weeks that Isaac - another student at USW in Football Coaching and Performance - has delivered 2 sessions a day, coaching players between the ages of 3 to 15 years old in locations all across the U.S.A including Kentucky, Kansas, and Minnesota.
Isaac coached our Academy U11s as well as our U16 girls team last season, and this year will continue his role with the U11s whilst also taking up a coaching position with the first ever Merthyr Town Women’s Football Team.
Whilst some of our Coaches are still abroad, our Academy sides are already back in training and raring to go for another promising season!
