Phil Llewelyn joins Merthyr Town FC as our new Academy Manager following his departure from the Cardiff City FC Academy.
Phil has been working with the Cardiff City FC Academy for 13 years but decided to leave the academy at the end of this season due to personal reasons. However, football has played a major part in Phil's life over the past 40 years and he wasn't prepared to leave the game completely and He has seen the Academy Manger's role here at Merthyr Town Football Club as the perfect challenge.
Phil has an incredible amount of coaching experience spanning over 40 years working with a variety of ages from seniors to Under 6's. He Co-founded Georgetown Boys and Girls Club in 1967 and from there he went on to manager Merthyr Tydfil's youth team in 1985.
In the year 2000, he began working with Swansea City FC as a school of excellence and development centre coach/manager before spending 3 weeks working in New Jersey with UK Elite Soccer.
In the year 2003 he took up a role with the Cardiff City FC Academy working as an advanced development centre Manager as well as coaching the academy age groups U9's, U10's and U11'/12's over the course of 13 years.
Phil now feels as though its time for him to return back to Merthyr Town FC and is excited about working for his hometown club, Phil had this to say, 'I am delighted to return to my home town football club and excited at the prospect of working and developing the young players of the local and surrounding areas. I hope I can justify the faith put in me by the club and look forward to the challenges ahead
